How to improve your 5K run time

 
 
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
 
When does registration close? Online registration closes at midnight on Wednesday, December 12 at 10:00 pm. You can still register at the pre-race day packet pick-up (Dec. 14th). See registration fees here.
Can I have someone pick up my packet for me? Yes, as long as you have permission from that person to do so. Written permission is not required.
Can I pick up my packet on race day? Yes, but we strongly recommend that you pick up your packet the day before the race. Click HERE for more details about pre-race day packet pick-up.

What is in my race packet? Your packet will contain a bib number, safety pins, timing chip, and zip tie. You will also receive your hat and gloves, and if you purchased an event t-shirt you will receive it at that time. Please let the volunteer know if you purchased an event t-shirt.

I registered, but have learned that I will be unable to participate.  Is my entry fee refundable? Our policy is no refunds, no transfers to another individual or to another TCMA event, and no rollovers to the next year's race. Sorry, no exceptions.

Can I wear headphones during the race? Yes, but be safe and don't turn them up so loud that you can't hear volunteers or police. We recommend leaving one head phone out of one ear.

Can I run or walk with my dog? Yes. You can run or walk with your dog, but they must be on a short leash and remain well behaved. In honor of our Beneficiary, The Humane Society of Tacoma & Pierce County, there will be a prize given out to the best dressed dog (announced at the awards ceremony - scheduled for 10:30 AM).
 
Can I run or walk with my child in the 1K race? Yes. Parents or guardians are welcome to run or walk with their kids, and don't need to register yourself.
Is there gear check at the start? Yes, there will be gear check (a.k.a. clothing check) located inside the Foss Waterway Seaport Building. Please use the bag given to you at packet pick-up for your gear/clothing. Your bib number will be written on the bag. We will have a volunteer posted to watch all of the gear while the race is occurring, but we are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please do not leave valuables in your bag.
What time does the race start? The 5K, 9:00 AM. All walkers are asked to line up in the back. The Kids run starts at 10:15 AM. Check the Race Day Information page for more details.
Is the race chip timed? Yes. Chip start, chip finish. Timing provided by Rogue Multi-Sport Timing Services. Timing chips are to be tied to your shoe with the zip tie provided in your race packet. You must return your timing chip at the completion of the race. There will be volunteers removing timing chips from your shoe at the finish line. Participants who fail to return timing chips within 30 days of the event will be charged a $20 fee. Click HERE for more information on what to do if you retained your timing chip.

 

Where is the start line located? The start and finish line are located on Dock Street, in front of the Foss Waterway Seaport Building. The start/finish line is marked by a red, blow-up arch.
How many miles is a 5K? 5K = 3.1 miles. There will be mile markers at each mile point.

Are there porta-potties? Yes, there will be multiple porta-potties at the start/finish line and one near the turn around point of the course (approx. mile 1.5 and 4.5).
Is there water on the course? There will be water at the start/finish line.
Are strollers allowed on the course? Yes, strollers are allowed and so are wheelchairs. But no roller blades, skateboards, or bicycles (expect for course marshals or lead cyclists). Dogs are allowed at this event as long as they are on a short leash and remain well behaved.
